Snapshot on an Award Winning Day

IMG_E0114.JPG

Today just a written snapshot from my day, the day Italy was awarded the record for most deaths in one day - we surpassed even China.

We live in a different world. Already. Hopefully just for now. But no one can really say.

There were a bunch of people waiting outside the supermarket. It wouldn’t open for another hour. Everyone took a number and then stood far apart from each other, strewn across the sidewalk, the road and the parking lot like a bunch of scattered marbles. No one spoke. They only waited. As if speaking would break the spell they were clinging to to keep them safe. A tabby cat ventured out from behind the trash cans, made her way into the crowd. And I watched as she skitted like a pinball from one empty spot to the next, dodging the motionless humans, obviously freaked out, clearly aware that something here was not right. Something was not being said. Yet the silence said it all.
